Trade unions in Turkey are holding a one-day strike in protest at the country's worst ever mine disaster, which has claimed at least 282 lives.

‘Fire in the sky’: Massive fires force 20,000 people to evacuate in southern California

Thousands of people fled raging wildfires in roasting southern California as flames destroyed homes and triggered evacuations at a nuclear power plant, a military base and an amusement park.

The blazes, which also closed a major north-south highway, come amid record temperatures in the western US state, where the annual wildfire season typically starts much later in the year.

Nevada Army Guardsmen To Deploy to Afghanistan

The war in Afghanistan started nearly 13 years ago, and while combat operations are set to cease by the end of the year, deployments will continue. Including for some of our Nevada guardsmen. Fifteen soldiers from the Nevada National Guard will head to Afghanistan, this summer.
Detachment 45 will fly a King Air 300 aircraft to do surveillance.

Korea Charges Four Crew Members of Sunken Ship With Homicide (2)

South Korean prosecutors charged the captain and three crew members of the ferry that sank last month with homicide, as divers trying to retrieve remaining victims faced collapsing structures inside the ship.
